Online File Viewer vs Local Processing — How FileWink Works

The page is online; file processing stays in your browser with no upload. Learn what loads over the network, what stays local and the practical limits.

An online page can process files locally

Online describes how you reach the page, not where your file is processed. FileWink delivers an interface and engine assets from the website. Once you select a local file, detection, parsing, rendering and supported exports run in your browser. The selected file is not uploaded to a processing server, and no cloud fallback is used.

What crosses the network?

Your browser requests the site code and the engine assets needed by a reader, such as WebAssembly and worker files. These are website resources, not your chosen document. A network connection is needed to load the site, and first-visit offline operation is not supported. No URL-fetch or open-from-link feature is provided; choose files from your device.

What happens when you close the tab?

The file session is temporary. Closing or reloading clears the current document and session bookmarks. Downloads that you explicitly save remain on your device. Download original uses the selected file unchanged; generated exports have their own limits. No account, billing or server library is needed to use the readers.

Local does not mean unlimited

Browser memory and format compatibility still matter. Parquet and delimited tables allow up to 200 MiB input, but expanded data can fail earlier. Table CSV export supports all matches or the current page, with at most 100 rows per page and a 50 MiB cap. Documents, books and images have different bounds. Check the relevant format guide before relying on a result.

Choose the right reading workflow

Use a table viewer to inspect exported records, a structured reader to follow nested data, or a document reader for pages and chapters. This free local inspection workspace supports CSV export of the current page or all matching rows within a 50 MiB cap. It has no editing suite or cloud conversion service. If a file fails to open, use the displayed error and format compatibility notes to decide whether a smaller supported file will help.
